Devlog #003: THANK YOU FOR 125k WISHLISTS!
Wow wow wow! You absolute legends!! 125k wishlists and counting! There are no words. We are just over the moon… nay- Over the stars!! Cannot believe it! The BEASTS are quaking in their boots! Haha! We may have to make them… stronger.
We can’t wait to be able to share more of the game to you. Our lil dev team is chuggin right along! At the moment, Tandemi is a four person team (with a few helpful contractors). We are playtesting daily - putting our cute and cuddly little heroes through their paces. These courageous little misfits are tirelessly taking on the terrors of the dark… Although they take their fair share of wallopings as well.
We are eager to share more gameplay with you all soon! In the Meantime, we’d like to share some of the process behind the scenes of our latest trailer:
TRAILER STORYBOARD VS FINAL
Here is a comparison of the storyboard art and final animation for our opening sequence. The storyboards were done by a fantastic contract artist. But there were some boards I drew at the veeeerrry beginning- which you can see below:
The models/rigs in the trailer are our in-game rigs. I wanted to avoid making whole face rigs for each character because of performance, bone count, complexity, all those things are why we don’t see as much polished face animation in game assets. So instead we sculpt each face, which has been a great lightweight method of getting the results we want. These little maniacs have to have their expressions just right!
That’s odd… the hands usually get off on the second floor
The ELevator sequence! So much of our game is little love letters and re-imaginings of our favorite horror/spooky stuff. It was my dream to drop our intrepid mini-adventurers into an homage to the great Overlook Hotel. So neat to bring it into the trailer (and the game).
And yes- the hands were all hand animated. It was quite an intimidating shot to set up- but we really wanted to capture the feeling of the blood elevator, as well as the feeling of the hordes you will be seeing in Begone Beast. (Hands won’t be the only type of horde, btw!)
Ah the Peekaboo Man. Our own horrible flesh blob. We can’t wait to show more of him. And I snuck in a little homage to the Mines of Moria.
And they call it a mine!
WHAT IS THE FROG’S NAME??
Many of you have been asking who is our delightful Frog mage? She’s a bit shy, but is a brilliant academic (and an adept baton twirler!) She also happens to be crushing hard on a certain other member of the group. We’ve got the other character’s names: Deacon, Benny, and of course Ate. I’m not supposed to share our frog’s name yet… but I guess if her name was to be expertly hidden within this blog post somewhere, noone would be the wiser. Just a thought!
Alright all you fine folks! HUGE thanks again for those wishlists. Let’s goooo! Keep posted for some meaty updates coming soon. And, as always *DEEEEEEP BREATH* AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
